Message i first need to thank Paul (member PaulS91TT) for lending me his garage and allowing me to do my plenum pull over there...he helped me a lot with this task and guided me through it...i had never done a plenum pull, and it seemed overwhelming, but he took every nite for a week to help me out and make sure it was done right...his garage is awesome and he had some great ideas throughout while working through various problems...cant thank you enough Paul

i also need to thank kyle at IPP, kuah at SPL, Seb at Specialty Z, and Bernie...i was calling, emailing, and instant messenging them constantly over the last 2 weeks or so...they were all very helpful and very quick in responding...thanks a lot guys

ok, my story...some of you may know that i have had lots of injector problems since i bought my TT in august 2006...i've dremeled a handful with replacements, and then had to replace those as well...its been a constant headache...at the start of december, i had 2 more injectors (that i hadnt dremeled yet) go out on me...the car was running like crap...i knew i could just replace them with old style 555s and be done with it, but i really didnt want to face this problem again in the future...i decided to bite the bullet and go with the new style injectors so i could be done with this problem once and for all

i decided to go with the 300Degree Fuel Rails and Nismo 615cc injectors (new style 555s)...i knew i would end up replacing a lot of the rubber components and doing a lot of other maintenance as well while the plenum was off

look at this bent wrench that Paul made...it made getting the EGR bolts under the plenum out A LOT easier...very smart idea

pulling the plenum off

here are the 300Degree rails and Nismo 615s installed...everything was covered up with towels, i just took it off for these pics

how sweet does that look!

here is a view from above after the plenum was back on

most of the junk we deleted from the car

here is a pic trying to show how i routed the Specialty Z fuel line adaptor kit...i wanted to keep the OEM serial type plumbing, so i got this kit...i was a little confused at first, but then Seb told me you can criss cross the lines--so the line from the rear of the driverside rail is connected to the fuel damper, and the line from the rear of the passenger side rail is going into the FPR...this allows you to keep the damper and FPR in the stock locations

swapping eproms

now here is why this took a little longer than expected...when we first started the car, the car started on 5 cylinders...# 2 was missing...i started troubleshooting...checked coil packs, ohmed the injector, checked for spark, i even swapped the injector into another cylinder (since my plenum is already dremeled in many spots)...it turns out we messed up on assembling one of the new injector connectors...the connectors i got had to be put together and then spliced in (and it was a PITA), and one of them wasnt seating right at all...i had to buy one with a pigtail already attached and spliced that in, and then the cylinder came back...i HIGHLY recommend getting connectors with pigtails to make your life easier with this part

2nd, when i got the car home, i could smell fuel...after searching around, i found that the leak was coming from the new AN fitting on the rear of the driverside fuel rail...although it was really tight in there, and i had to remove a few things, i was able to tighten the fitting w/o pulling the plenum off...i got VERY lucky, b/c had the leak been at any other end of the rail, it would mean pulling the plenum again...i know we tightened that fitting and pressure tested it prior to install, but either we didnt tighten it enough or it came undone during the install...either way, the fuel leak is gone and i dont smell fuel anymore and dont feel that leak either

3rd, last night when i started the car i got code 34 and was in safety boost when i drove her...Bernie told me to check and make sure i didnt get the connector confused with the VTC, but i had it on right...i unplugged the det sensor, and plugged it back in...i decided to drive the car again, and the code magically vanished...i felt boost for the time in 6 weeks and i knew everything was okay, i finally got my Z back =)

Conclusion:

my TT is driving sooo smooth right now, in fact i cannot even remember the last time she drove this good...she is idling so much smoother and calmer, i can easily feel the difference...prior to this, the car was very rough, those injectors were prob sputtering (when i pulled them out of the car, only 2 were ohming within spec! i guess that will make your car run like crap)...i ran the codes again this morning with datascan and i got code 55: no faults (which is always good to see)

and the car just sounds incredible...i can finally hear my JWT exhaust and hear it the way its suppose to sound...she even feels quicker than before...it was just an incredible feeling driving around for the first time running "properly" in so long...

besides the rails and injectors, i also replaced the damper, FPR, just about every gasket i needed to replace, o2 sensor, fuel lines, and about every rubber hose in there...we used the PDF plenum pull writeup by NYTWOLF and it was spot on (the only diff i noted was that we used an 8mm hose for the water bypass and not a 6mm as noted in the writeup)...but the writeup made it simple, thanks!

after doing this now (and having done the bypass) i feel the same way after the first timing belt job i did--i learned a lot and i feel that i could tackle a plenum pull by myself...its just overwhelming at first and i have this fear of screwing up, and thats why I asked Paul to help me...i knew he had done this before and it made me more comfortable having someone more knowledgable helping me out...anyways, i still have a few more maintenance items to tackle in the near future, but i'm dying to get my Z to the track...i've never had her on a road course, but i know i will soon...
